Of all the events of that (bicentennial) weekend, . . . it’s Evensong that sticks in my mind. The atmosphere in the church was quite magical, and I don’t think there could have been a better way to introduce the chamber organ to its new home. The choir did a wonderful job singing what was basically an unaccompanied service.
I made my way over to St. James Episcopal Church in New London tonight and heard “Lessons and Carols for Advent” with the Anglican Singers…. If you like choral music at all – or if you’re just curious – go see them, because they’re wonderful, truly a local treasure.
The Anglican Singers added a great deal to the service. The group is committed, well trained and attentive to details,of diverse ages,(and) sings with a fine sense of musicianship and expression. Marianna Wilcox has trained her singers intelligently and thoughtfully, and they are clearly and thoroughly dedicated to the style of singing which their title implies.
